Buying a laptop with useful specifications at a low price is not a joke. While many laptops provide high-end gizmo with all the latest technologies tucked in, the price of these products is exorbitantly high. For economical laptops, manufacturers must select some features and keep some away to make it a handy tool. Toshiba Satellite C55-A5180 is one such ‘budget-buy’ that allows casual users to sent emails, chat in social media sites, enjoy movies or music, and churn out some useful image editing jobs as well. Let’s look how Toshiba managed to put in useful specifications in a comfortable price range.

Design

The 15.6-inch laptop is 35mm thick and weighs around 2.5kg. The specification does not show that it is trying to reach the ultrabook standard (which is ultrathin and lightweight computing gizmo). Nonetheless, the laptop looks polished and durable. It is also portable enough to be carried to different places. The black shiny feel with matte interiors makes it elegant.

The keyboard is a full-sized one with a 10-key numeric pad. The keys are conveniently placed to ensure gamers can try out mid-range games with the keys. There is also a highly intuitive touchpad which is receptive to multiple gestures. Users can pinch, press, or swipe the touchpad to instruct the computer. Remember, there is no backlight for the keys nor is there a touchscreen. Placing these features would have increased the cost of the gizmo.

Features

The Satellite model from Toshiba is made of Intel Celeron N2820 Processor which offers a sufficiently efficient processing speed of 2.39GHz. The internal memory is 4GB DDR3L SDRAM with a 1333MHZ memory speed. The storage option is 500GB. The hard disk does not have a Solid State Drive (SSD) option. However, it manages to work well with its Serial ATA-600 interface and compatibility with the Ethernet 100Base-T connectivity.

The display unit is an LED-backlit TFT-based screen with widescreen option. The aspect ratio is 16:9. High definition images and videos are displayed in the screen. The Intel HD graphics card is integrated in the system that allows the users to play not-so-heavy graphic centric games.

The computing gizmo is packed by a detailed multimedia facility. There is an HD webcam to chat with friends, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports for seamless and fast data transfer. The laptop allows wireless connectivity with its LAN facility at 802.11b/g/n bandwidth. It is also possible to get a 10/100 Ethernet LAN connection as there is a RJ-45 connector. There is a SuperMulti DVD player that allows users to slide in DVDs and MP3 CDs.

Performance

The Toshiba laptop does not have wide viewing angles (vertical or horizontal). Neither does it have an immensely high resolution. The images provided by the display are high-definition no doubt that can be viewed on a screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Videos can be watched at 720p. The gizmo however, allows Toshiba’s patented TruBrit display where there is brightness and preciseness in the images. The background reflecting lights don’t disturb picture perfect viewing. The widescreen display allows viewing of mid-range movies and games. The more intricate ones will not be played properly in this economically priced laptop.

The mid-range laptop is capable of doing multiple tasks as well. If needed, there is a provision to increase the internal memory to 8GB. The 1MB cache option in the processor allows continuous processing chores.

Don’t worry about security. Even though low range, the mobile computing device allows the user to place various media cards. There is a multi-format media reading port that allows Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, and Secure Digital High Capacity card readers. Equipped with a modest battery life of 5 hours and a little more, the Toshiba Satellite C55-A5180 has acceptable utilities as per the price offered for the same.

Although some specifications are useful, the laptop significantly lacks Bluetooth connectivity, SmartCard reader slot, and a dedicated graphics memory.

Help and Customer Support

Users who want to know about the usability features of the laptop or wish to download useful videos and drivers for their gizmo can check the support center at Toshiba’s official website. There are tips about warranty and repair option for the Toshiba laptop. Customer care assistants are available at all times to help users who are stuck while troubleshooting their gadget.

Pricing

Considering the price of around $350, the Toshiba Satellite C55-A5180 is a lucrative computing gizmo to buy. Although, users may not get the high performing specifications with this price range yet the specifications used in the laptop is good enough for normal entertainment and communication.
